(July 2018) – The Certified Horsemanship Association (CHA) International Conference is fast approaching. This year’s conference will take place September 28-30, 2018, in Fort Collins, Colorado, at Colorado State University (CSU) and at the Hilton Fort Collins. CHA members and non-members alike have been registering and making their hotel plans. July 31st is the early bird registration deadline to save some money as you register for the conference.
The CHA International Conference offers something for everyone…with mounted clinics from top-level instructors and trainers using CSU horses, to lecture-style presentations from leading experts within the horse industry, to plenty of chances to network and socialize with other attendees. When you read up on the speakers and the sessions and check the schedule, it’s easy to see what a valuable conference this will be to improve horsemanship skills; to improve teaching skills, if you are an instructor of any kind; and to learn useful information on equine business management.
These are just some of the topics: horse safety meets barn design, understanding and supporting the fearful rider, how to breed for certain traits, how to incorporate CHA into your lesson programs, nutrition for the active older horse, transitions for all gaits, exercises to control and improve the posting trot, jumping, bit evasion, strength and balance exercises, creating and using PDF fillable forms, insurance, social media, science of equine behavior and learning, Ride a Reiner and much more.
The conference kicks off on Friday, September 28, with the opening of the trade show and silent auction and the radio and online TV show called Speaking of Horses with Wayne Williams. The CHA Annual Membership Meeting will be held later that day at 2 p.m. A welcome reception brings attendees together at 6 p.m. with dessert round table discussions to follow.
Both Saturday and Sunday are packed full of sessions, along with the ability of attendees to bid on silent auction items. Mounted sessions will be on a first-come first-serve basis, and full conference participants may ride in one mounted presentation. Training for those who want to become CHA Site Visitors will take place on Friday and Monday mornings as Colorado State University Equine Sciences is wanting to be a CHA Accredited Equine Facility.
One of the favorite parts of the conference includes the CHA Awards Banquet, which this year will be on Sunday night and will kick off with a keynote from Dr. Temple Grandin. During the awards banquet, everyone will find out who has won CHA Instructor of the Year, Clinic Instructor of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, Partner in Safety, Distinguished Service, and the CHA Stone School Horse of the Year Awards. It’s a fun night full of good food, friends, and a lot of celebrating for the amazing community that surrounds the largest certifying body in the equine industry in North America, the Certified Horsemanship Association.
