ABOUT CLINTON & DEMO
Clinton Anderson is a clinician, horse trainer and competitor. He’s dedicated his life to helping others realize their horsemanship dreams and keeping them inspired to achieve their goals. The Downunder Horsemanship Method of horse training is based on mutual respect and understanding and gives horse owners the knowledge needed to become skilled horsemen and train their horses to be consistent and willing partners. Clinton will be sharing his colt starting technique in a demo that will showcase groundwork exercises to prepare the young horse for a safe first ride. Once in the saddle, Clinton will detail the steps he takes to allowing the horse to get comfortable with a rider on his back and the beginning stages of steering and body control.
With the experience of starting hundreds of horses, Clinton’s colt starting method is based on safety for the horse and the rider and focuses on properly preparing the colt with groundwork exercises to guarantee a safe first ride. During the demonstration, Clinton will share desensitizing and sensitizing exercises he uses to ensure the colt is respectful, calm and willing. Unlike traditional colt starting methods, Clinton uses an assistant during the horse’s first three rides to make the experience less stressful for the colt and will have one of his Certified Clinicians on hand to help demonstrate to the crowd the benefits of using a helper.
When asked to present his colt starting method, Clinton didn’t hesitate to partner with the NRHA. “I’ve always loved the challenge of training a horse and the thrill of competing. Breeding, raising, training and competing reiners has been a longtime passion of mine,” he explains. “When I was contacted by the NRHA to share my knowledge of starting colts, I was honored and happy to help a sport that has meant a lot to me throughout my career with horses.”
During the demo, Clinton Anderson will give away a Colt Starting Kit ($599 retail value) to one lucky audience member. The kit is filled with 11 DVDs and 26 Arena Mates. In the Colt Starting Series he covers every aspect of starting a young horse from catching a wild horse to safely walking, trotting and cantering on a loose rein both in the arena and on the trail. The series is filled with countless success tips, safety precautions and troubleshooting advice. There will be other giveaways during the demo to look forward to as well.
It’s the most elite reining event in the world with more than 3,000 entries competing for more than $2 million in cash and prizes. More than 1,300 horses and 127,000 visitors come from nearly 20 countries to compete and watch the excitement unfold.
