Fred Thomsson Tops Open SWRHA Futurity Preliminaries on Banjo Hustler

Entries Increase Substantially for 2008 SWRHA Futurity

While some other equine events across the country have experienced a slight decrease in entries, the Southwest Reining Horse Association Futurity only continues to grow.

Held annually at the historic Hardy Murphy Coliseum in Ardmore, Oklahoma, the 2008 edition’s total Futurity entries increased over 32% from the previous year.

In the Open division, total entries rose from 214 in 2007, to 245. But the largest growth could be seen in the Non Pro divisions. Last year, there were 95 entries, but this year that number rose to 162.

Jana Simons and Gunner Hold Your Fire Win SWRHA Intermediate Non Pro

Simons On Fire in Intermediate Non Pro

Jana Simons earned the Southwest Reining Horse Association Futurity Horse Show intermediate non pro class on her Gunner Hold Your Fire. The pair marked a score of 146.5, collecting $584. Simons was also awarded a Morrison bronze and a mini 4-Wheeler.

Kimberly Tillman and Im Genuinely Smart Win 2008 SWRHA Rookie

Top Rookie-Kimberly Tillman

Kimberly Tillman was all smiles after winning the rookie class for the Southwest Reining Horse Association Futurity Horse Show. She partnered with her Im Genuinely Smart, to mark a 71.5, earning the title, $100, a plaque, and a special yellow mini 4-Wheeler, compliments of the SWRHA.

Mathieu Buton Wins SWRHA Limited Open Championship on Zumbar Rojo

Mathieu Buton competed in his first futurity at last year’s Southwest Reining Horse Association Futurity. He returned in 2008 on Zumbar Rojo to mark a 220.5 in the finals and earn the limited open championship, a check for $3,092, a saddle, and a Lawson bronze.

Jared LeClair and Electric Code Win SWRHA Open and Intermediate Open Futurity

Jared LeClair and Electric Code Sizzle in the Finals

Jared LeClair was riding to win the Southwest Reining Horse Association Futurity – and he did so handily on Electric Code, owned by L & D Partnership. Coming in as draw 19, he knew that the bar had already been set high, as the high score was a 224.

Greg Hall and Got No Diamonds Win SWRHA Futurity Horse Show Intermediate Open

A 221.5 Ride Earns a SWRHA Signature 4-Wheeler

Greg Hall rode his Got No Diamonds, to win the intermediate open class at the Southwest Reining Horse Association Futurity Horse Show. The pair scored a 221.5 in the class to not only earn $659, but also a Morrison bronze and one of the Southwest Reining Horse Association’s signature 4-Wheelers!

Monica Hicks Rides Smart And Shiney to Win SWRHA Performance Versatility

SWRHA Rein In Cancer Fundraiser

The first Annual Southwest Reining Horse Association Futurity Rein In Cancer Performance Halter and Pleasure classes were a resounding success. The classes, held during the SWRHA Futurity, benefited Rein In Cancer, an equine-based fundraising program that aids in the battle against cancer.

With 17 horses in the Performance Halter, and 18 competing in the Performance Pleasure, the entry numbers exceeded everyone’s expectations. Horses and riders competing in both classes were also eligible for the Versatility award - a motorized Cruizin’ Cooler. (more…)

McCutcheon & Smart Scat Win SWRHA Futurity Non Pro Prelims

The third day of competition was commemorated with the largest non pro futurity class in the Southwest Reining Horse Association’s history, with more than 50 entries. In fact, total entries for all non pro divisions were up by 67 horses to 162.

The preliminary class began on Thursday, October 23, and decided the top 15 non pro, top 15 intermediate non pro, top 13 limited non pro, and top 7 Prime Time non pro riders who qualified for the clean-slate finals on Saturday. The bubble scores for a finals berth were 214 in the non pro, 211 in the intermediate non pro, 204 in the limited non pro, and 211.5 in the Prime Time non pro. (more…)
