People Behind the Partnership – Oded Fein

The NRHA and MS Diamonds TX pair well, especially considering that both entities represent elegance—one showcasing graceful equine athletes and the other exquisite diamonds.

Oded Fein sat down with the NRHA Media department here at the 2020 NRHA Futurity to visit about his involvement as an owner and breeder of reining horses, as well as a loyal NRHA Corporate Partner.

Since 2016, MS Diamonds TX, Official Diamond Jeweler of NRHA, has presented both the Level 4 Open Champion rider and owner of the winning horse with the custom-made hand crafted NRHA Futurity Open Championship Ring. The exclusive eight-layer 18 KT yellow and white gold ring is set with top quality diamonds and European traditional enamel work. Two diamond horns hold a white gold crown set with one center brilliant cut diamond.

How long have you been attending the NRHA Futurity?

“I’ve been coming to the NRHA Futurity for 20 years. The first time I attended was in the year 2000. I became a Corporate Sponsor in 2016.”

Favorite NRHA Futurity memory?

“Each Futurity is so unique. It starts one way and finishes in a different way. It’s always a very, very nice experience. Usually, I’m the first guy here because I arrive a day before everyone so we can set up [our booth]. It’s very nice and I like the whole experience. You can see the people, the new horses, the set-up, the whole thing is unique and I love it.”

What does it mean to you to be the title sponsor of the MS Diamonds TX Level 4 Open Finals?

“That’s a big change and has a lot of meaning. Everyone is looking forward to the Level 4 Finals because it’s the biggest and best. We give the ring and the ring is very, very special, nobody else has it, only the NRHA has a ring like this. It makes the show come full circle for me, we make the ring look perfect and it has a lot of meaning for me to sponsor the Level 4.”

How did you first become involved in reining as an owner?

“I own Modern Gun, and now he’s a breeding stallion. I started with him when I first started being a Corporate Partner in 2016. He was the first horse that I brought to the Futurity. He was a finalist and was sixth in the Level 4 Finals with Duane Latimer. Everything started that year, that was the most important year for me as an owner.”

What does it mean to you that NRHA was able to produce this Futurity in 2020?

“That’s a win-win, just to have the show, and by people trying to stay healthy and put the masks on. Just thinking of what happened to Doug Carpenter, that’s a guy that everybody loved. He was such a special guy who did a lot for the NRHA, for the Futurity, and for the [Futurity] sales. I knew him personally and I really loved the guy and appreciate everything that he did. Just to be able to have a show in these times, it’s a big achievement. Everybody is doing their best so the whole thing is a win to me.”

Is there something people might not know about you or about MS Diamonds TX?

“Our slogan is ‘Earning your trust carat by carat.’ This is actually what has happened. At the first Futurity, people didn’t understand what I was doing here, it was like ‘What is this crazy diamond guy doing here?’ Now it would look funny if I wasn’t here. We are here to stay and to contribute as much as we can. Every year we come up with something new to try and help NRHA. In order to do this, you need to have a lot of passion. Me personally, I have that vision with what I do with my reining horses and with my business.”
