Reining fans everywhere now recognize Guaranteed A Magnum as a two-time NRHA Derby L4 Open champion, but when Jeromy and Jacqueline Lipps bought him as an unknown weanling, they took a gamble. The magnificent bay that’s swept the coveted Derby title two consecutive years was just a scrappy colt when Jacqueline first found a post on Facebook advertising him for sale. But from the moment he stepped foot on the Lipps’ ranch, they saw potential. “He was a special horse from the very beginning. His personality was always great,” Jeromy shared. “I kept asking him and he kept giving me more. I thought he was a pretty special horse, and he keeps proving it still today.”
By the 2015 Futurity Prospect Sale, Jeromy and the colt caught the attention of several high-ticket buyers and well-known professionals, including Casey Hinton. “I regretted that I didn’t buy him [at the sale],” Hinton admitted. “When the buyer wanted to sell him as a 3-year-old, I bought him. We stayed with the program to help him reach his potential. Now, as a 5- and 6-year-old, he’s really risen to the top.”
His success perfectly followed the Lipps’ intentions—thanks to a good foundation of training from Jeromy and the credibility of the Markel/NRHA Futurity Sales. “We recognized his talent early on and knew the sale was the platform to get him into the right hands,” Jacqueline recalled. “The publicity of the sale made it the best place for us to promote Amos,” Jeromy agreed. “We couldn’t be happier with the way he’s performed.”
