Sale: 2015 Futurity Prospect
Consigner: Dean Latimer, Marietta, Oklahoma
Purchaser: Gordon Robinson, Granum, Alberta
Gordon Robinson made the trek from Granum, Alberta, to Oklahoma City for two reasons: To watch his horse show and to find his next prospect.
“When you’re at the Futurity, the sale is a convenient way to find a solid prospect,” Robinson shared. “My trainer in Canada at the time was Wayne Latimer. His son, Dean, mentioned Special Made Whiskey. I liked him, so I went to the sale and bought him.”
After that simple transaction, Robinson planned to bring his new acquisition to Canada for training with Amanda Antifaev. However, an injury kept Antifaev out of the saddle, so Special Made Whiskey went back south for Dean to ride. At the end of his 3-year-old year, the horse returned to Canada, where he’s made a name for himself on the local circuit.
“Up here in Canada, he’s the go-to horse—kind of untouchable,” Robinson revealed. “We have his first foal crop now, too.”
Robinson plans to keep showing him in non pro classes and continue his budding breeding career.
“I plan to take him to the NRHA Derby and a few other shows in the States, too,” Robinson shared.
