For Immediate Release – July 18, 2018 – Oklahoma City, Oklahoma – Beginning with the August issue of the NRHA Reiner magazine, many will notice changes to the monthly publication. NRHA is in the process of writing a new, exciting chapter with the magazine after implementing new standards for its production, editorial, advertising sales and printing.
In this new chapter, NRHA develops an even stronger joint-publishing relationship with Active Interest Media (AIM) of Boulder, Colorado. AIM publishes 55 magazines, including several in the equine space; owns two associations and several trade shows; has approximately 500 employees; and offers many efficiencies in production, sales and printing. The company is also the publisher of the Pro Trainer magazine for NRHA Professionals, which has received rave reviews for nearly two years and is a highly valued benefit of an NRHA Professional membership.
For many years, NRHA has worked with contractors for several aspects of the Reiner. For example, all or part of printing, design, ad sales, and editorial have been contracted to outside resources. Given the size of AIM’s publication activities, the company has far greater resources and economies of scale, making them an excellent partner. Taking advantage of this efficiency should translate into maintaining NRHA’s profitability in the short term and should also improve profitability over time.
MEETING THE NEED
In an effort to support the needs identified in a recent survey, the NRHA Reiner’s editorial content will be more oriented to the lifestyle of the reining competitor with more training and educational components for the majority of the members who attend the average weekend NRHA event. Additionally, event coverage, NRHA program information, and tips ranging from fitness to a competitive mindset will be highlighted to meet the needs expressed in the survey. The magazine will provide better service to members and leverage the NRHA website to offer more event results and advertising opportunities.
The NRHA Reiner will arrive in member mailboxes at a consistent time each month to meet reader and advertiser expectations. As a continued benefit with applicable memberships, we felt this was important for our members. Additionally, readers will see a new, more forward design, along with many other improvements for an on-target, more desirable publication. Members and fans can also still expect to have access to the online Reiner each month.

Taking the lead in terms of content and production in August will be AIM Editorial Director Jennifer Paulson, NRHA Chief Communications Officer Christa Morris-Stone, and AIM Art Director Michelle Miller.
Additionally, NRHA’s Bucky Harris and AIM’s Mitch Miller will serve as advertising sales contacts. Harris will focus on breeder and member accounts while Miller will handle and pursue commercial advertisers.
