It’s taken less than two months to convince all-around competitor Samantha that she might be hooked on the slide. An intern for Petroll Reining Horses, Samantha is an expert mane braider and loper already.
“I’d never ridden a reiner until I came to work for Petroll. I’m thinking about switching disciplines now, because I really enjoy reining. Hopefully I can either show with Petrolls or get my own reiner someday.”
A fresh graduate from North Central Texas College, Samantha is headed to Forth Worth Community College in the fall. Armed with certificates in equine reproduction, equine science and ranch management, Samantha will be switching gears soon.
“I’ll be studying ultrasonography and radiology. I want radiology to be my main job in the future and then do equine breeding in the spring so I have money to take care of my horses.”
With one retired show horse and an up-and-coming all-arounder back home, Samantha doesn’t have plans to switch disciplines quite yet.
“This is my first time at the NRHA Derby. I’m excited to be here and it’s been a lot of fun so far.”
